Ilex ‘Golden King’ Holly perhaps among the most popular holly for gardens as it has all the charm of a variegated holly but without any of the spines on its foliage, except for the occasional leaf tip being a little bit pointy!
The rich green glossy leaves have a fantastic golden margin, giving this plant its common name of ‘golden king’. It is possibly that a show of berries makes an appearance when male and female plants are within the vicinity.
Note – Despite being the golden ‘king’, this specimen is a female and the golden ‘queen’ is actually the male!
The plant’s growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions.
