Mahonia ‘winter sun’ is a rather exotic looking shrub with a fanning habit but on a horizontal plane, almost stacking with each layer of foliage. It produces flower spikes that are coloured a contrasting bright yellow against the dark green foliage. These make an appearance during the winter from as early as november through to febuary in late examples and come with a light and delicate fragrance. It is perhaps a more compact variety of mahonia, with a smaller spread than some at around 1.5m fully mature and a height of 2.5m.
The plant’s growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions, and bloom, foliage and interest may vary from photo upon delivery, dependant on season.
